The other day I had a great time photographing my nephew for his high school graduation photos. Congratulations Cooper Danel! Here are a few favorites from the shoot…
Once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk they say. This month and running through the fall semester at the University of Kansas, I am following Barb Kinney as the “Alumni Photographer” at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications, my alma mater.
This ultra cool gallery show consists of 25 14″ x 18″ black and white prints that I have made from my portfolio of some of the hardest-hit areas of the world that I have been to over the last eight years. Each photograph features people and situations that tell a story of what life is really like all over the world and show people overcoming oppression and injustice. I think this show will both humble and inspire people.
I’d love for you to stop in and see them if you are anywhere near Lawrence, Kansas. More info on this show and events surrounding it this fall will be posted soon!
Time for the yearly wedding update. As you know, I pretty much take one wedding a year and usually only for friends. This time it was for one of my most trusted, loyal and talented editors, Brandon Wasserburger. Brandon has been doing a great job for me for years, so when he got engaged and asked if I would shoot his wedding, it was a no brainer. I said yes immediately.
I had never been to Cody, Wyoming, where Brandon and his lovely wife Mari got married. It was awesome. But better yet was the simplicity and humility of this wedding. It reminded me of my own–and that doesn’t happen very often any more. So congrats to these two, and just think–the Wild West is still alive!
As promised, I am going to post some photos from the week my family spent in Arkansas with close friends the Andersens (it is their ranch that you see) and the Jacksons. For my son Henry, who as you can see below caught his first fish, there were many first-time events, mostly mechanical in nature. See if you can spot a few more in the film after the photo.
When we told people we were going to spend a week in Arkansas, they invariably said “Why? What is in Arkansas?!?” But after setting foot at Mill Creek, there was no doubt: this is a great place, and coupled with some of our best friends, it made for an epic trip. I loved taking the camera around the whole week, capturing fun little moments and some of the very best portraits I have ever taken of my wife and kids. Regardless, enjoy this little glimpse into the Sheridan world when it collides with a beautiful place and great friends…
