Santa Cruz Surfer

While I was in Los Gatos I had the idea to run over Highway 17 and see some friends and family for the afternoon. After a nice latte at Verve in downtown Santa Cruz, I walked along the coast by Santa Cruz’s famous lighthouse. I couldn’t resist taking a shot of this surfer dude…

The Mythical Bird

Last week I did something I had not done in 14 years: run through the Campanile and down the hill at Mt. Oread and around the stadium in Lawrence, Kansas at the University of Kansas. I managed to shoot two rolls of film, and I had an amazing time reconnecting with this place, the people, and the memories of my college years. I also had the privilege of speaking to a class of journalism students at the William Allen White School of Journalism (where I have a bunch of photographs on display).

Being at KU and the J School brought back many memories of where I came from, all of which made be thankful for the journey I have taken to where I am now. And although Old KU lost the football game (barely), the time with friends in that place will be something I won’t soon forget — if ever. I just hope that it doesn’t take another 14 years to make it back there!

One Epic Trip

As promised, I am going to post some photos from the week my family spent in Arkansas with close friends the Andersens (it is their ranch that you see) and the Jacksons. For my son Henry, who as you can see below caught his first fish, there were many first-time events, mostly mechanical in nature. See if you can spot a few more in the film after the photo.

When we told people we were going to spend a week in Arkansas, they invariably said “Why? What is in Arkansas?!?” But after setting foot at Mill Creek, there was no doubt: this is a great place, and coupled with some of our best friends, it made for an epic trip. I loved taking the camera around the whole week, capturing fun little moments and some of the very best portraits I have ever taken of my wife and kids. Regardless, enjoy this little glimpse into the Sheridan world when it collides with a beautiful place and great friends…

The Vail Aspens…

…each October, they are pretty much unreal. The first weekend of this month I had a shoot in Vail and could not resist hiking up the slopes with my trusty Nikon F5 film camera and shooting a few rolls of these stunning creatures shedding their skins. If you ever get the chance to go there that time of year, take it.

Malibu Never Looked So Good

Every year it seems like I get asked to shoot a wedding. And if it’s a friend or friend of a friend, and if it’s sure to be a good time, I usually oblige. And love it.

Jimmy and Nicole were my 2010 wedding, and it was AWESOME. Right on the beach in Malibu, CA. Check it out (and N and J, I hope you are having a heck of a first year!):
