A Book, Bekele, and a Matching Gift

Bekele and Dumbelle at Project Mercy. Bekele had just graduated from Nursing School.

Testimony Africa is more than a book. 10 percent of all book proceeds go back into the three communities/projects where the stories were developed. One of those projects is Project Mercy, in Yetebon, Ethiopia, and I was privileged to be there a few weeks ago shooting a promo film. I got to visit for awhile with Bekele, one of the stories featured in the book. He is doing great, having just graduated from nursing school. He will begin work at the Project Mercy hospital soon.

I asked Bekele how we could help him and his answer was that he wanted his sister and his younger brother to be able to continue their schooling. The money from book sales that is going to Project Mercy will go to a fund to help young people like these to continue their schooling. And what’s more, a generous donor has agreed to match all funds that come from Testimony Africa sales!

With a matching grant on all book sale portions that will go for education to those in need at Project Mercy, today is the  perfect time to get Testimony Africa. Remember, we still have copies of signed, first edition books left, and they make GREAT gifts. So buy early, buy often, and rest easy knowing that this is one gift this Christmas season that will actually do some good! Make sure to watch the slideshow below from the recent shoot at Project Mercy…

Africa Like You’ve Never Seen it Before

Testimony Africa is done and in hand. It is GORGEOUS. Order now and I will sign the book for you and ship it immediately. I’ve also made a limited edition collection of 29 prints from the book available.

Journey to Bolivia…

For the 6th year in a row I got to shoot World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine Study Tour. In years past we have gone to Kenya, Uganda, Swaziland, Mozambique, and Malawi. This year we broke the Africa streak and went to Bolivia. It was an excellent trip. Here are a few of the stills I shot along the way:

Formspring Me!

A few months ago I had the chance to take a couple of portrait shots of the founders of this amazing little startup called Formspring.me. It’s a cool little application you can use to let people ask you any question they want. Ask ME something. Anyhow, here are a couple photos of the main dudes over there:

I used my trusty Nikon F5 and Kodak film.

Justice

Last month I was privileged to accompany International Justice Mission President and CEO Gary Haugen, along with several other IJM staff and donors, on a tour of their work in Cambodia and the Philippines. It was a remarkable trip, and being with these folks was, in short, amazing. Nikon provided me with a D3 and several lenses; I shot the entire trip on that body and IJM’s D700. Here are a few selects (note: none of the people in this short film are IJM clients):

Thanks to everyone at IJM for a great trip!
