Andy Tirado

My cell rang the other day. On the other end was a local artist named Andy Tirado. “Can you come shoot my art work at the Fine Arts Center before the show ends?” he asked me.  The show ended that day. I went on down and discovered a VERY cool show. Glad I made it in time before it was all wrapped….

The Hills of Haiti

TBA and Expecting Mother

I’ve been to Haiti quite a few times now, but it’s been a year or two since the last time, when I came face to face with Haiti’s newly elected President. Anyhow, this time was quite different than holing up in Port-au-Prince and bumping around town dodging rubble. This time I hiked WAY up in the hills to do a story on traditional birth attendants that Medical Teams International is helping equip to better serve expecting and new mothers. It was hot and humid but terribly fun.

Mill Creek Ranch

Mill Creek Ranch

So here is the second GOCO post, after having written briefly about how GOCO set me free to shoot around the state of Colorado. Short story on this is that GOCO has helped enable ranchers in Colorado to keep large tracts of land instead of selling them for development that may not exactly fit the area’s ethos. The ranchers are grateful. And so was I to get to see how that way of life is being maintained in a really special, healthy way. Very cool stuff. Nice work GOCO.

The Western Highlands

One of the most magical places I’ve been in my career is the western highlands of Guatemala. It’s all you might think it is–winding roads that take you past “chicken buses” struggling to get up steep hills, weathered Guatemalans who are doing their best to earn a living off the land, and a simply stunning topography. It truly is one of the world’s toughest places.

Enter Mercy Corps, working to save and improve lives in places like the western Guatemala highlands. And doing a great job of it. Here’s a look into their work there…

This is Colorado Springs

What image comes to mind when you think of Colorado Springs? For many it’s Pikes Peak. For others it’s a religious mecca of sorts. But the reality is far greater and more strikingly honest than any stereotype that comes to mind. Below is a series of photos that I put together, along with Pulitzer-Prize winning photojournalist Michael Ciaglo, about how one downtown church in Colorado Springs is working to reach out to people of all sorts in this place we call home.
